CIMB Group (MYX: 1023) is Malaysia's second largest financial services provider listed on Bursa Malaysia through Bumiputra-Commerce Holdings Berhad (BCHB). In 2004, CIMB started the process of creating a strong and competitive global bank with Commerce International Merchant Bankers (CIMB), the largest investment bank in its area. CIMB Bank is a joint venture of Bank Bumiputra-Commerce and South Bank with CIMB, the largest investment bank in Malaysia. This led to the creation of the first global bank in Malaysia.
The CIMB Group has grown from 1,000 workers in Malaysia to 20,000 in 12 countries, while its market investment increased from RM3.3 billion to RM33 billion. Based on market price on May 13, 2008, BCHB is the third largest behind Public Bank and Maybank. Total assets of the Group increased from RM14.7 to RM155 billion with an additional RM18 billion of third party funds under management.
